Homegrown Music is WVIA-FM's exclusive series which each week showcases the talents of regional contemporary music artists in recordings produced in the WVIA-FM studios by series host George Graham and is broadcast Tuesdays at 9:00 PM. A special feature in November is a live Homegrown Music concert broadcast on the 7th. Further information on Homegrown Music may be obtained via the World Wide Web at http://homegrownmusic.info and http://www.wvia.org/radio/wvia-fm-programs/homegrown-music

Nov. 1 Sarah Holgate. A talented singer-songwriter pianist from the Wilkes-Barre area, Sarah Holgate released a CD Somewhere Past Distraction in 2009 to very favorable reviews. She has been performing in New York City as well as in Northeastern PA. She makes her Homegrown Music debut with some new material plus re-interpretations of songs from her CD, joined by a quartet including her brother Eric on bass. Encore from 2010.

Nov. 7 A Homegrown Music Concert with SCOTT CHASOLEN and BLACK BEAR CROSSING. WVIA's unique series of live concert-broadcasts continues with two very different styles represented: a rock-influenced singer-songwriter, and an acoustic group performing traditional Celtic and Appalachian folk music.

Scott Chasolen

New Jersey pianist, singer and songwriter Scott Chasolen has had a varied career. He played keyboards in a jazz-rock fusion group called Ulu, for several years he has toured the world with the popular Pink Floyd tribute band The Machine, and he performs his own music with the Scott Chasolen Trio. That aspect of his music will be featured in his debut live Homegrown Music concert appearance. He was featured earlier in the year on a Homegrown studio session, and his current CD Fracture was spotlighted on the Mixed Bag weekly album review.

Black Bear Crossing, from the Williamsport area, return to Homegrown Music with their delightful blend of traditional music styles from Celtic to Eastern European to traditional American folk, played on such instruments as hammered dulcimer, Celtic harp and fiddle.

Nov. 8 Bottom/The Godinez Brothers. Jon and Rodney Godinez have been performing in groups for almost two decades, more recently as the Godinez Brothers. Back in the 1990s, they called their group Bottom, and this archive edition of Homegrown Music spotlights an early session by Bottom in 1997. (Encore)

Nov. 15 Zak Sobel. From State College, acoustic singer-songwriter Zak Sobel makes his Homegrown Music debut with a nice collection of original music, joined by guitarist Josh Angert.

Nov. 22 Smash Palace. A first-rate rock band from Southeastern PA and NJ, Smash Palace were signed to an international record deal one day when they were playing in the famous Cavern Club in Liverpool, where the Beatles were also "discovered." The group has been together in various forms since the 1980s. They perform some of their more recent material in this Homegrown Music session from 2007. (Encore)

Nov. 29 The Electric Farm. Another gem from the Homegrown Music archive, this Lehigh Valley Band has existed on and off for many years, led by principal composer and lead vocalist Joey Mutis III. This segment features music from some their early 1990s Homegrown Music sessions.
